“So what did you have in mind for Joe Don’s birthday present?” Jay asked me. I had asked him to come with me to help pick it out. I knew exactly what I wanted to get Joe Don, but not exactly.
“I wanted to get him this guitar that he keeps talking about. He keeps saying how amazing it would be to have one himself.” I replied trying to remember the name of it.
“Oh, that Gibson Chet Atkins guitar. Do you have any idea how much that thing costs?” he asked in disbelief.
“Yep. I’m about to ruin my credit.”
”How bout the guitar is from like everyone. Me, Ally, Gary, Tara, and you.”
“Are you just trying to get out of having to buy Joe Don a gift?” I said laughing knowing the answer.
“No! Well, maybe. But only because that guitar is way too much for you to have to buy on your own.”
“Believe me, I can afford it. I’m the highest paid coach and NGA.”
“Which still isn’t a whole lot.”
“I make way more than most coaches do…like 3 times as much.” I replied defending myself. I wasn’t about to let him help me buy MY gift for Joe Don. I only brought him along to make sure I bought the right guitar.
“Okay, no need to get all defensive.” Jay laughed.
“Whatever. Come on…” I said dragging him into the gigantic Gibson Guitars store and warehouse in downtown Nashville.

Kati’s POV
“So, did you get Joe Don his birthday present yet?” I asked Alexa.
“Yes. Well kinda, I ordered it. Hopefully Gibson will have it done before we leave for out west.”
”I’m so jealous of you. You get to go to Phoenix and Southern Cal.”
”I know, I’m so excited.”
“Is he still completely oblivious to the fact that you’re coming with them.” I asked.
”Yep. Which is surprising, he can usually tell if I’m hiding something.” Alexa added before taking a bite of her BLT.
“You mean before you accidentally tell him.” I said correcting her.
“Well…yeah.” She laughed.
“So how are you gonna get the guitar there?”
“Preston is going to take it when he flies out there.”
”Wait, you going on the buses?”
“No, I’m going on the jet with them. If he doesn’t catch on by the fact that there’s gonna be pink suitcases in my car, then he’s really losing it.”
“Yeah definitely.” I laughed just as Alexa cell phone started ringing. “Like I Am”…she gave me this look like ‘Do you mind?’
“Answer it already!” I said.

My POV
“Hi honey!” I said answering Joe Don’s phone call.
“What are you up to?” he said laughing.
“Nothing. Why?”
“I don’t know. Maybe since you didn’t answer when I called at like 1:30pm.”
”I was busy.”
”So did you get my birthday present…” he asked curiously.
“What birthday present? Who said I was buying you anything?” I said sarcastically.
“Mmmhmmm. That’s what I thought.”
“Did you get my birthday present?” I laughed.
“It’s like a month away.”
“So you can never start planning to early.”
”Well, I already know what I’m getting you. But that will probably just make you nag me more.”
“Probably. Well, I’m gonna go. Quality girl time with Kati.”
“Shopping?”
“No. Food!” I laughed.
“Cute. I love you.” Joe Don said.
“I love you too. Bye.”
“Bye babe.”
I hung up the phone and looked over at Kati.
“Sorry…” I said to her.
”Don’t worry about it.”
“Okay, well I’m gonna get going. I’ve got a ton of cleaning to do.”
“What happen to quality girl time?” Kati laughed.
“It flew by. But seriously…I’ve got to go.”
“Alright, so I’ll see you soon. Friday maybe?” Kati said standing up and giving me a hug.
“Yeah that should be good. But I can’t stay out too late. I have work in the morning.”
“Okay, bye.”
“Bye.”
I walked to my car, got in and drove home to my cozy condo. I figured I would clean in parts. First the kitchen and living room. Then the bedrooms and bathrooms. I fed Pugie and started to reorganize my mess.”

Joe Don’s POV
“You ready to go hun?” I asked Alexa as she scampered through the house in her 3 ½ inch heels. We were going out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Ichiban. They have the best sushi in the world.
“Yeah, almost. You can go start the car.” she said tossing me her keys.
“We’re taking the truck.” I replied tossing the back at her. She ran into the kitchen and came running back out with her purse.
“Alright now I’m ready.” She said taking my hand as we walked out the door.

“I must say you look beautiful tonight.” I said to Alexa.
“Thank you sweetie. You don’t look so bad yourself.” She replied smiling. Just then some guy came up and snapped a picture of us through the window.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” I laughed.
“Well, secrets officially out. That will be all over CMT insider tomorrow.” Alexa laughed.
“Always trying to make things sound better. Not like it was a secret anymore anyways.”
“True.” She said leaning in and kissing me. Another snapshot went off. She looked at me and started to laugh. I looked around her out the window to see if the photographer was still there. Sure enough he was.
“Follow my lead” I said whispering into her ear and leaned in to kiss her, putting on a show for the photographer.
Finally after what seemed like forever the man left. I pulled out and looked at Alexa.
“Very funny. The story tomorrow is gonna be ‘Lyric Street Lablemates Get Cozy’.”
“Ehhh…owell. I don’t care. I will be on a tour bus somewhere.”
“That’s not fair, leave me to deal with it on my own.”
“Awww, just don’t say anything about it. That’s what our publicist is going to tell you to do.”
“Yeah, probably.”
“So, have you started song selection yet?”
“Not really, but I have a meeting with Randy and Dann tomorrow so we’ll see what they have planned.”
“Hmmm…any idea who you want to play guitar on your album?” I said hinting my idea.
“Hmmm…Keith Urban. Now he’s hot.” She replied making a joke out of it.
“Fine then. Forget it.” I said laughing.
“Hey, I’m letting Dann decided. He’s the producer.”
“Alright what do you say we head home.” I said giving her another kiss.
”Okay let’s go.”
We got the check. I didn’t even let Alexa touch it. I told her it was expensive, but not how expensive. She has gotten a lot better about arguing about paying on dates.

My POV
Once we got back to the condo I ripped my heels off. My feet were killing me.
“That was fast.” Joe Don said laughing.
”Do you wanna were them?”
“No. I think I’m good.”
“Okay, well I’m gonna go get changed, and get a few things then we can go.”
“Alright. I just sit down here a watch TV.”
“Fine, give me like 10 minutes.”
I quickly changed into some comfortable clothes, and grabbed a change of clothes for the morning. I made sure that everything I was going to need for the weekend and more was packed and ready to go. I knew for a fact that it would be a long weekend with the guys. Well, at least until Joe Don’s family would get there, then I would get to escaped.
“Alright I’m ready.” I said to Joe Don as I walked down the hallway.
“Hmmm…coming.” He replied still not getting up from the couch.
“Joe Don! Let’s go!”
“Alright, relax. I’m coming.” He said finally getting up.

Once we got back to Joe Don’s house we collapse on the couch.
“I’m gonna miss you this weekend.” Joe Don said to me quietly, “Especially since we don’t get to spend my birthday together.”
“Well I get to be the first person to wish you a happy birthday.”
“Hmmm…true.” He said kissing me.
“Alright since, we have get up bright and early, I vote we get to bed early.” I said pulling out.
“Fine, you’re probably right.” Joe Don said pulling me up to my feet and taking my hand as we headed to the bedroom.
Since I already changed, I just crawled right into bed and snuggled into the pillows.
“Falling asleep before I even get to chance to say goodnight?” Joe Don said climbing into to be next to me. I opened my eyes and flashed him a smile.
“I wasn’t asleep!” I said in defense.
“Come here…” said pulling me into him and giving me another amazing kiss.
“Mmmm…thank you.” I laughed, “I love you too.”
“Love you too.” He said kissing me one more time, “Goodnight baby.”
“Goodnight.” I replied snuggling into his warm chest.

“Okay, so we just gotta stop at my house real quick.” I said to Joe Don.
”For what?”
“You’ll see…” I laughed. Once we pulled into the garage I ran to my bedroom and got my suitcases…all three of them.
“What are those for?” Joe Don asked as I wheeled them out to the truck.
”This weekend.”
“Where are you going.”
“Ummm…Phoenix and Southern California…with some country group. I heard it was the lead guitarist’s birthday today.” I said laughing.
”Awww. Honey, you didn’t have to come with.” He said giving me a hug.
“Hey, I didn’t wanna go. My boss gave me the weekend off.”
“That’s a lie.” Joe Don added laughing.
“You caught me.”

Phoenix, AZ
Preston came up to me with a freaked out look on his face. We had to get the guitar into the guys’ dressing room before they finished sound check.
“Where do you want me to put this thing?” He asked
“Just get in the dressing room like now. They’re gonna be done in like 5 minutes.”
“Okay, so just set it anywhere obvious?”
”Yeah because otherwise he won’t see it.”
Preston quickly went to put Joe Don’s present in their dressing room. Just as the guys were coming offstage from sound check, Preston walked out of there giving me thumbs up.
“Hey honey. How’d we sound?” Joe Don asked giving me a hug and a kiss.
“Ehhh…you were okay…” I said laughing.
“Just okay?”
“Yep.”
“Okay, so we are just gonna go relax in the dressing room before we have to get ready for the show.”
“Hmmm alright…me and Faith were gonna go grab a late lunch. You want me to bring you back anything?”
“No, but thanks.”
”I’ll see you in a bit. I love you” I said giving him another kiss.
“I love you too.”
I turned around walking away smiling because I knew what Joe Don was about to discover.
