“I still can’t believe you got me that guitar babe.” Joe Don said as we walked back to the bus from the venue.
“Yeah well…I knew you wanted it.” I replied, “And I wanted to get you something special.”
“But you didn’t have to get me something at all. I didn’t even tell you what I wanted.”
“Let’s just say I kinda knew what you wanted.”
“Mmhhhmmm…there’s something else I want.” Joe Don said slyly.
“You try, I will kick you ass.” I said getting on the bus.
“Alright, alright. Forget I said anything.”

Jay’s POV
“Hey where did Joe Don go?” I asked Chank.
“I saw him leave like 10 minutes ago with Alexa.” He replied.
“Oh great, now I have to wait like an hour to go out there.” I laughed.
“Probably would be a good idea.”
I was exhausted and I really wanted to get to bed but I figured I’d better be safe and call Joe Don’s cell phone. If he answered, it’d be safe to head out there, if not, lets just say I better wait a while. So I pulled my phone out, dialed his number and waited for answer. Only one ring and someone picked up.
“Hey Jaydizzle.” Alexa said.
“Why did you just call me that?” I asked wondering how she knew that’s what Joe Don called me when I try to be a ghetto white boy.
“That’s what the I.D. said on the phone.”
“Hmmm…good to know. So where are you guys?”
“On the bus, watching TV. If you’re that tired just come out here. We aren’t doing anything.”
“So it’s safe?”
“Yes. I told him I’d kick his ass if he tried anything.”
“Hardcore to the bone huh?” I said laughing.
”You know it.”
“Okay, me and Gary will probably be out there in like 10, maybe 15 minutes.”
“Sounds good. And no throwing cake at us please.”
”Fine, I guess I could be nice.”
”Whatever. Bye.” She said hanging up the phone on me.
I went to go look for Gary so we could get out of here, onto the bus, and onto the next city where there were hotel rooms waiting for us. When I finally found him, I had to explain that it was safe to head out there. We said goodnight to everyone and walked outside. When we got to the bus, we noticed that Alexa and Joe Don were nowhere to be found. Gary gave me a look like ‘This was a bad idea.’ So I went and knocked on the door leading to the bunks.
“I told you it was safe!!!” I heard Alexa yell.
“Okay chill…” I said coming in seeing them already in Joe Don’s bunk.

Joe Don’s POV
The next morning…
“Hey baby, me and the guys are gonna go play a round of golf.” I said.
“Why because it relaxing?” she joked with little finger quotation marks when she said relaxing.
“Yep.” I said grabbing my wallet and phone.
“Yeah right, I know why men go golfing…to get away from their women.”
“Sometimes…”
”And today is one of those days.”
”No its not.” I said trying to defend myself.
“Sure, whatever. I don’t really care.”
“Okay, well see you later.” I said giving her a kiss. She immediately went back to straightening her hair with an angry look on her face. She knew me better than I thought she did. She knew I just wanted to get away.
“I love you.” I said hoping to get her to budge.
“Yep.” She replied. I gave up hope and just decided to leave.
*~*~*~*~*~*
“Hey man. What’s with you today?” Jay asked.
“Just distracted.” I replied.
“Why?”
“Alexa is mad at me. I guess she knows that we go golfing to get a break from the women.”
“Hmmm. How mad?”
”I don’t know, mad enough to not reply to ‘I love you.’”
“A little overreaction huh?”
“Yeah I guess so.”
“Don’t worry, it’ll blow over. She’ll be fine by tonight.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
*~*~*~*~*~*
My POV
“It’s like yeah okay, you want to get away, but don’t lie and say it’s ‘relaxing’ and expect me not to know you lying. I’m not that stupid.” I said to Austin while we picked out an outfit for me to wear that night.
“You’ve got a point. And besides he just told you out of the blue that he going golfing. Like, he didn’t even tell you beforehand.”
“Yeah, I don’t know. I mean I’m mad but it like for a stupid reason.”
“Have you talked to him yet?”
”No I’ve been avoiding him because if I start yelling at Joe Don now I’ll be in a bad mood for the show.”
”Did he try to talk to you after your sound check?”
”Not really, he just kinda sat up in the seats. I know he was thinking about talking to me but he didn’t.”
“So you’re just going to avoid him until after the show.”
”I guess so…”
Just then we heard a knock on the door. I gave Austin a look like ‘It’d better not be him.’
“Who is it?” I asked.
“It’s Jay.” I heard him reply.
“Come in.”
Jay opened the door and came in.
“Hey, can I talk to you?” he asked.
“Yeah, sure.” I said as Austin left.
“Did Joe Don send you?” I asked while still going through clothes.
“Kinda, he asked me to talk to you sometime today but he wasn’t like, ‘Go talk to her now.’ If you know what I mean.”
“Yeah, I get it.”
”So why are you mad at him?”
“I don’t want to talk to you about it because I know you’ll just go tell Joe Don.”
“Alright, but know that you’re angry for a stupid reason.” Jay snapped as he walked out the door. I decided I would wait until after the show to talk to Joe Don. Right now I was far to upset to talk to anyone.
*~*~*~*~*~*
I waited just outside the exit from center stage for the guys to come out. Finally I saw 3 tall figures, the tallest in the back. When Joe Don walked passed me, I grabbed his arm and made sure his mic was off.
“So you want to talk to me now?” he asked.
”Yes. Because the last thing we need is to go onstage after fighting.” I replied.
”What makes you think we’re going to fight?”
“Because I know you, and look at us right now.”
“Listen, you got mad for a stupid reason. I didn’t even truly lie. And sure I didn’t tell you beforehand, but hey, I could’ve just left without even telling you at all.” He said.
“But how come you waited until the last minute to tell me?”
”I didn’t think it was that important”
”See that’s what I mean, you don’t think that it’s important that I know where you are.”
”Alexa, you are acting like my mother!”
”You know what, I’m done! I don’t care! Do whatever the heck you want!” I said losing my cool and walking away.

Joe Don’s POV
“So how’d it go?” Jay asked as I walked into our dressing room
“How does it look like it went?” I said annoyed.
“That good huh?” Gary said sarcastically.
“Listen, I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Alright let’s just get out to the bus so we can hit the road.”
We got our stuff together and headed out to the bus. We turned on the TV and decided we’d all watch the Ohio State game that was on the TIVO. It wasn’t long before Alexa came on the bus, walked right passed us to the bunks and didn’t even look at me. But I noticed the look on her face was not good. She had obviously been crying. I looked to guys for what I should do. Gary motioned for me to follow her so I got up and walked back to the bunks.
I walked in and Alexa immediately turned around and gave me a hug. I took me by surprise but I just hugged her back and kissed her head.
“Hunny I’m so sorry…” she said pulling away.
“Baby you don’t need to apologize.” I replied trying to calm her down, however, it wasn’t working. She just continued to cry. I just had to reach over and wipe the tears from her face, causing her to look up at me.
“Listen, you don’t need to apologize. I know you’re sorry. And from now on, I’ll tell you I’m going golfing long before I leave.” I said hoping to make her laugh.
“Okay sounds like a plan.” She replied giving me another hug.
“I love you…” I whispered in her ear.
“I know, I love you too.” She said looking into my eyes. I couldn’t resist, I had to kiss her.
“Okay, so no more of this. I don’t like the feeling of being mad at each other.”
“Me either. It sucks.” She laughed.
“Okay so seriously…I’m ready for bed.” I said.
“Me too. It’s been a long and frustrating day.”
*~*~*~*~*~*
My POV
“It feels good to be home.” I said dropping my bags at the door and flopping down on the couch in my living room.
“Tell me about…” Joe Don said while sitting down and placing my legs in his lap.
“Touring can take its toll.”
”Yeah, definitely experienced that this weekend…”
“Ahhh…but it still feels good.” I laughed
“Hey! Your not allowed to say that! That’s my song!”
”It isn’t your song, its Gary’s…”
“But I recorded it…”
“The three of you recorded it.”
”Okay I give up…you can say that. Way to prove your point.”
“Good because this still feels good.” I said giving him a kiss.
“Oh how I missed doing that without thinking someone’s going to walk in.”
“Hmmm...Very funny.” I said giving Joe Don a look.
“So what do you want to do today?”
“Absolutely nothing.”
“Nothing huh…not even shopping?”
“What are you trying to get me out of the house.”
”No, it’s just I have to run some errands that I don’t need your help with.”
”Ohhh…thanks. You always find some way to make me feel important.” I said with a laugh.
“Then maybe we could go out to dinner tonight because after this week we have the Nashville show, then the album release, and promotion stuff all over the place.” Joe Don said.
“You want me to leave ASAP huh.”
“If you could…” he said trying not to sound pushy.
“Fine, I’m taking a shower then I’m leaving.” I said standing up, “So much for spending some time together…”
*~*~*~*~*~*
Joe Don’s POV
The real reason I needed to get her out of the house was because I had someone coming over to discuss one the birthday presents I was giving her. She keeps saying how much she wants a dog, so guess what…she’s getting one.
When she came pounding down the stairs she was talking to someone on the phone. I figured it was Kati since she hadn’t talked to her in couple days.
“Bye babe. I’ll see you later.” I said as her walked to the door.
“Bye hunny!” she said walking out into the garage.
*~*~*~*~*~*
My POV
“So you had your first fight huh?” Kati said.
“Yeah, I guess so. And I didn’t like the feeling.” I replied.
“So I’m broke now, what do you say we call it a day?”
“Fine. I guess I could go home and get ready to out to dinner now.”
“So where are you guys going tonight.”
”Honestly, I have no idea. But he told me to dress nice.”
”Have you wore that white dress you bought the day we ran into him yet?” she asked.
”No, you think I should wear that?”
“Why not, I mean you’ve finally gotten tan enough to wear it so you won’t look pasty.”
”Shut up! The Italianness in me doesn’t kick in until like mid-July. Until then my skin is all Irish.”
“So I will call you tomorrow with plans for next week since your man will be gone.” She laughed.
“Don’t remind me…” I whined.
“You gonna miss him?”
”More than ever…”
“So what really happened on his birthday night?”
”Nothing, Nothing, not a thing.”
“Sure. I don’t believe you.”
”I promise! Nothing happened!”
”Mmhmm…I bet.”
”Whatever believe what you want. And if anything did happen I would tell you.”
“Alright. Talk to you later.” Kati said giving me a hug.
“Yep. Bye.” I replied and started walking back to my car when I got a text message. I opened up my phone and read it. ‘Pick you up a 7:30?’ I quickly replied a ‘sounds good’ before I started my car and headed home.
