Chapter 13
Jay’s POV

Everyone was over at Gary’s house for a cookout, however currently it was raining so we were all trapped inside.   The girls were busy making hor d’ourves in the kitchen, so it was just us three guys in the living room talking.

“So JD, what was with Alexa this weekend?” I asked him.
“I can hear you Jay…” Alexa said poking her head out from the kitchen.
“PMSing???” I teased.
“You got it!” she said again making all the girls laugh.
“You know, I was talking to you boyfriend…”
“Jay!   Stop it!!” Aly yelled.
“Aww…come on.   You gotta let me have some fun.” I replied.
“Same here.” Alexa said stepping into the doorway, aiming a knife at me jokingly.
“Hey, simmer down there ‘Lex.” Joe Don said, “We kinda need him this weekend.”
“I can take his place…’HERE!!!’” Alexa sang in an extremely out of tune voice.
“Where did you here that?” I asked.
“Dann’s blackmail…he warned you.” She laughed walking back into the kitchen.

My POV

“So who’s my brother playing this weekend?” I asked referring to the Titans.
“Patriots, I think.” Gary answered.
“Great, Titans are going to lose…” I said getting up and grabbing one of the trays from the table and walking to the kitchen.

Me, Aly, and Tara spent the next hour doing dishes   and talking about our plans for next week since the guys were going to be gone doing a short promo tour.   When we finished with all the dishes I went back out to the living room and collapsed onto the couch next to Joe Don.

“You ready to leave?” he asked sweetly.   I nodded against his chest.
“Alright, unless you guys wanna carry Alexa out to the car were gonna get going.” He said to everyone.
“Okay, see you guys bright and early on Saturday morning.   9 a.m…You going to be able to get Joe Don up that early ‘Lex?” Jay said.
“Yep.   I hope so.” I replied as I grabbed my purse and put on my shoes.
“Goodnight guys!” Tara called from upstairs as she put Brittany and Brooklyn to bed.
“Night Tara.” Joe Don replied as we walked out the front door.

It was a quiet drive home, mainly because I was falling asleep.   But Joe Don seemed to think something else was wrong.

“Hey, what’s up?   You’re being way to quiet…” he said grabbing my hand.
“Nothing…I’m fine.   I’m just really tired.” I replied.
“No you’re not.   Something’s wrong.   Come on’ tell me…”
“I told you.   I’m fine.   Stop worrying…”
“Okay fine, don’t tell me…but I know there’s something you aren’t telling me.”

Finally after another 10 minutes we pulled up to Joe Don’s house.   I hopped out of the car and walked to the leading into the house.   Or so I thought I did.

“Hun…that door goes outside.” Joe Don said reaching out his hand, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine…just really tired.” I said getting sick of him asking me.
“Just making sure…you seem way to out of it to be tired.   How many drinks did you have?”
“Just 2, believe me I’m no lightweight…”
“Come on lets get you to bed…” he said picking me up.
”Put me down!” I screamed.
“Nope…otherwise you’ll end up going downstairs…”
”Joe Don stop!   I can walk!” I laughed.

Finally we got up to his bedroom and he set me down, threw one of his t-shirts at me, and pointed to the bathroom.   I gave him my best puppy face.

“Don’t give me that look.   You said you were tired so hurry up and get ready for bed.   I have to take a shower because I’m going golfing with Preston at 8 a.m.” he said.
“Fine!” I yelled playfully as I walked toward the bathroom.

When I came out Joe Don was nowhere to be found so I just climbed into bed and under the covers.   It wasn’t even 30 seconds when Joe Don came in and stopped by the bed on his way to take a shower.

“Goodnight babe.   I love you.” He said giving me a kiss.
“Love you too.” I replied and rolled over as he walked away.

I tried to fall asleep but I just couldn’t.   All I could think about was how after Monday night I was going to see Joe Don for 6 days.   A month ago I would’ve been like I’ll just call him but half the time they would be on a plane this time around.   I just keep thinking about how much I depended on him.   I had always been very independent before I met him and now I wanted to be with him all the time.   I’d never felt like this before and to tell you the truth, it scared me.   What would I do if things didn’t work out between us?   I didn’t want to think about it but I couldn’t help it.   I suddenly felt as if I was going to cry.   I didn’t know why but I just did.   At that very moment the bathroom door opened and I pretended to be asleep.   A minute later Joe Don climbed into to bed and wrapped his arms around me gently.

“You are beyond amazing…” he whispered into my ear not knowing I was awake.   I could think of any thing to say.   I could do was turn around and hug him much to his surprise.

Joe Don’s POV

I woke to the smell of eggs and pancakes and I instantly hopped of bed.   A rare occasion at 6:30 in the morning.   When I got downstairs I saw Alexa cooking eggs sunnyside-up, my favorite, even though she hate eggs that way.   But then I look to the other side of the stove and sure enough, a pan of scrambled eggs was cooking.

“Good morning beautiful…” I sang into Alexa’s ear and wrapped my arms around her waist.
“Good morning.” She said giving me a kiss, “Surprised to see you up.”
“Very funny.   So what’s cooking?”
”Eggs, bacon, and pancakes.   And now that you’re up, I’m not getting you your orange juice.” She laughed playfully.
“Fine don’t expect me to get you any apple juice then.” I joked back.
“Hey, I’m cooking you breakfast.”
“I’m kidding…” I said kissing her cheek.
“You better be.”

While we ate our breakfast we talked about stuff for next week.   I could tell Alexa didn’t like talking about it so I decided to change the subject.

“So I want to give you on of you birthday presents early.” I said standing up.
“Where are you going?” she asked.
“Just stay here.” I said grabbing and little envelope out of the hutch by the door.   I came back into the kitchen and set the envelope down on the table in front of her.

“A little envelope…it’s amazing…” she said sarcastically.
“Look what’s inside.” I told her. She opened it, looked what was inside, and then gave me a look of disbelief.
“You don’t have to take the key, but if you say yes to my question then you’re going to need it.” I said hinting for her to read the piece that was in there.   She read the note, stood up, over, and gave me a kiss.

“Of course.” She whispered to me before grabbing her purse and walking out the door to head to work.

My POV

I was at work during the 15 minute break we give the gymnasts during practice.

“So how are things with Joe Don?” Paige, the team’s dance coach, asked me.<<(funny thing paige…that really is the name of our dance coach at gymnastics…lol)
“Good.   He asked me to move in with him this morning.” I replied
“Oh my gosh! He did? Please tell me you said yes otherwise I’ll move in with him!” she said laughing.
“What do you think I said?”
“Yes?”
“Yep, well actually I said of course…but still.”
“So what are you going to do with your condo?”
”I think I’m just going to offer it to Kati to buy…she’s in love with that place.”
“Well if she doesn’t want it, I will definitely take it.”
“Okay, I’ll let you know.” I replied laughing at her.

I was so glad to be done with work for the week and I drove home when I got a call on my cell phone.   I picked it up and answered.

”Hello.”
“Hey sis!” I heard my sister Sammy say.
“Oh my gosh!   How are you?” I said surprised.
“Good.   Where are you?”
“Ummm…driving home from work…why?” I asked confused.
”Because I’m in Nashville.” She said.
”What?   Why are you here?”
“We had a game with the Tennessee State soccer team and we don’t go back until Sunday night.” She explained.
“Okay, so why did you call?”
“We should go out tonight…unless you had something planned with Joe Don.”
“Sound like fun, I have an idea of what we could do if all the guys are free tonight.   Where are you right now?”
”Opryland Hotel.”
“I’m turning around and picking you up…I’ll be there in like 10 minutes.”
“Okay…”
“So be ready, see you in a bit. Bye.” I said hanging up my phone and turning around.

“Wow…I love it…it’s so organized.” Sammy said as she walked into my condo.
“Yeah, well soon everything will be in boxes…” I said.
“Why?”
“I’m moving in with Joe Don.”
“When?   Like soon?” she asked.
“I don’t know.   He just asked me this morning…”
“So what are you going to do with this place?”
”I’m probably going to sell it to Kati or my friend Paige from work.”
“Hmmm…okay.   So what are we doing tonight?” she asked.
“Well considering that you’re finally 21, we’re gonna show what the Nashville music scene is really about.”
“Sounds like fun…” she laughed.

I went and grabbed my phone and sent out a mass text message to Joe Don, Jay, Gary, Tara, Aly, and Kati for them all to meet me at the condo at 7:30 and for the guys to bring their guitars and voices.   We were going down to Printer’s Alley.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Our first stop, The Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar.   We all ordered a drink and waited for the stage to be open which wasn’t very long.   I quickly ran up the music manager and explained the situation.   I also asked if I could introduce the next act.   She agreed so I motioned for Gary, Jay and Joe Don to come over to the stage as I grabbed a microphone and walked up to the middle of the stage.

“Hey everyone, hopefully most of you in here know why I’m up here.” I began causing the place to start laughing, “The next act is releasing their 5th studio album this next Tuesday.   They are playing a sold out show at the Sommet Center this Saturday.   Please welcome to the stage Rascal Flatts!”

I quickly walked off stage and as I did I grabbed Joe Don hand and squeezed it as he walked up the stairs.   I went back and sat down by the girls and enjoy the show as the guys gave a preview of some things on the new album.   The just when I thought they we going to be done Gary stood up and grabbed the microphone.

“Before we finish tonight, I would someone to come up here and sing one last song with us.” He said looking at me.   I knew exactly what he was about to do. “This lady has sung with us a couple weekends out on tour and was recently signed by Lyric Street Records.   So please welcome to the stage…Alexa Bellotti.”

Kati and Aly seemed to know he was going to do that so they immediately pushed me off my seat at the bar and pushed me towards the stage.   When I got up there Joe Don started playing the opening chords to He Ain’t the Leavin Kind.   I gave Gary a look like ‘You could sing this song yourself…’
