Chapter 2
b2h...back to home
Joe Don’s POV…

She spun around as did her friend.
“OMG! Hey!”
“So, I never got the chance to introduce myself last night” I said casually.
“Believe me, she knows who you are” her friend said.
I laughed and said “Well anyways, I’m Joe Don Rooney”
“And I’m Alexa Marie Belotti”
“Being a smart aleck I see…”
“No.   I just wanna have 3 names like you” she smiled.
“And I’m Kati Hayes” the other girl shouted.
I laughed and said “It’s nice to meet you too”

I could tell she was a little nervous to be talking to me.   But Alexa seemed pretty outgoing.   After seeing her last night at the bar I would’ve been surprised if she wasn’t.

“So what are you two pretty ladies doing on this sunny afternoon?”
“Shopping!” they laughed together.
“Figures…” I muttered.
“What was that?   I didn’t catch that Joe Don.” Alexa snapped at me.
“Nothing” I said and she just rolled her eyes and smiled.   I wasn’t starting to like this girl and I liked her personality so I figured I would take a chance.

“Would you girls be interested in getting some coffee with me?” I asked.
“Sure, sounds like fun.” Alexa said
“Actually I have a term paper due tomorrow so it looks like you two are on your own” Kati added.   Alexa shot her this look as if to say ‘I’m gonna kill you!’ and I just had to laugh.
“Shut it!” Alexa said which caused me to stop but I was still smiling.
“Okay…so I’ll talk to you later ‘Lex.”
“I hate you!   Bye!” she replied.
“I expect details!” Kati yelled as she walked away.

Alexa and me headed up the sidewalk towards the closest Starbucks just talking.

My POV…

“So about Kati…” Joe Don said and took a sip of his boring black coffee which I made fun of him for because it’s Starbucks and there’s only like a million choices.   On the other hand, I got a white chocolate mocha.
“Yeah, what about her?”
“She’s a little…loud?”
“If that’s what you want to call it.   I personally would say obnoxious.” I laughed.
“Yeah… but you actually know her”
“So, your point”
“You can say anything you want about her but me-“
“Anyone could say anything about her and she wouldn’t care”
“Hey Alexa”
“Yeah…whoops I’m sorry did I cut you off!?” I laughed as did he.   He knew exactly where this was going.
“Yeah, you’ve me off like five times man”
“OMG…I’m sorry! You weren’t done?”
“Yeah…I wasn’t…okay I’m done now” he said and smiled.   And was I in love with that smile
“Stars Align…” I said casually then started to laugh.

We talked for almost 2 hours so we decided to call it quits for the day and exchanged numbers so we could keep in touch.

“Now, this isn’t some fake number you give to fans?”
“No, that’s my real number…trust me.”
I raised an eyebrow at him and said “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing…” he said simply.
“You know say that a lot”
“I know…it’s a habit”

“Okay so it was nice actually getting to know you.   Fan sites can be deceiving…”
“Yeah, there’s stuff that people don’t know about me believe it or not.”
“So I guess I might call you” I said as he gave me a hug (and was I in heaven!).   I stressed the might just to see what he would say.
“You better shorty!”
“Hey!   I can’t help it if I’m only 5’3”…” I said with a said with a sad puppy face.
He laughed and said “Okay I’ll talk to you soon?”
“Alright. Bye?”
“Bye”

I turned and walked off towards my condo.   I couldn’t believe I had just hung out with Joe Don.   He was sooooo sweet and funny.   H e actually seemed like he wanted to get to know me…which was refreshing considering what I’ve been through…

I opened my door and heard
“Miss Alexa!” coming from the kitchen.
I rolled my eyes and said “Miss Kati…you liar!”
“I know…but I had to do it she said as she handed me a bowl of mac&cheese.
“Thanks” I said, “But…it was fun…”
“Oh yeah! Details! Now!”
“We drank coffee and talked.   That’s it.”
“Yeah right…”

We talked about it for about 30 minutes.   Kati was all intense and overreacting about the whole thing
“So what happened at the end?”
“We hugged. That’s all.” I said and she slouched over.   I knew what she was hoping to hear.   “But we did exchange numbers…
“No way!” she screamed, “Call him!   Call him!”
“No!   Not yet.”
“Too scared???”
“No…” she looked at me, “Yeah…I am.”
“Why?   You guys talked for like hours.”
“I don’t know…”
“Uh oh… you actually like him don’t you”
“I think so…”
“Ugh, Alexa!”
“Shut up!   That’s how I am! I can talk in person but not on the phone.   Besides… the 2 day rule…” I reminded her.
“Okay but he calls, you better talk to him.”
“Okay”

”Well, I gotta go.   I really do have a paper due.”
“Liar…again!” I laughed, “Well today was fun…thanks for getting me stuck in that situation”
“No problem! Bye.” She shouted from the door.

I went and changed into to some pj pants and a tank top, grabbed my song book, a pen, and my guitar.   Then I went and plopped down on the couch.

You see when Joe Don asked if I ever thought of becoming a singer, I was kinda lying.   That’s one of the reasons I decided on Nashville.   I could’ve gone anywhere I wanted after graduation…but I picked here for the singing and songwriting.

I had an idea stuck in my head all day so the words just came right out and onto the paper.

(I know this is Sugarland’s song but I love it…)

Stay

I've been sitting here staring at the clock on the wall
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be crying

And I'll be begging you, baby
Beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waiting
With my Heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years
And I think I'm dying

What do I have to do to make you see
She can't love you like me?

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay

You keep telling me, baby
There will come a time
When you will leave her arms
And forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth
And I don't like being used and I'm tired of waiting
It's too much pain to have to bare
To love a man you have to share

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay

I can't take it any longer
But my will is getting stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute
After all that I've put in it
I've given you my best
Why does she get the best of you
So next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine

Why don't you stay
I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
You can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go
There is one thing you should know
I don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay, yeah

I figured out the acoustics for the song and called it quits.   I quickly fed my cat then went to bed and set my alarm for 6am

*~*~*~*~*

I got home from the YMCA at about 10:30, took a shower changed into some clean clothes, threw my hair up in a ponytail, and put a load of laundry in the wash.   I grabbed my keys and purse and headed out the door.   I went to the Walgreens to pick up my medication and then went grocery shopping.   After I got home and put everything away I checked my phone and say I had one missed call and a new voicemail…
