Three weeks had passed since that crazy and confusing week out on tour with the guys. What I didn’t know about those shows until a couple days ago was that Lyric Streets owner and main talent scout, Randy Goodman, was there for all of the shows. I was just about ready to kill Joe Don when he told me. But, on the bright side, a possible recording contract is in the works but I’m still thinking about it. I also quit my job at Coyote Ugly. It just wasn’t for me anymore. It was a tough decision but I knew I was making the right one.
*~*~*~*~*
“Come on sweetie!” I called up the stairs, “We gotta go! NOW!”
“Alright, Alright…I’m ready.” Joe Don said as he reached the bottom of the stairs and gave me a kiss.
“Yeah…only twenty minutes behind schedule.” I replied smart aleckly (lol),”I don’t see why you had to straighten your hair…”
It was Wednesday and I had to get Joe Don to the airport in 15 minutes. The guys were going to be gone for 2 weeks doing a west coast run of shows. I knew I was going to miss Joe Don like crazy but I had Kati to keep me occupied and in a girls night out sorta way.
*~*~*~*~*
We pulled into the airport and were directed back towards the private jets. The lucky bastards got to fly to California on Lyric Streets business jet since no one could get them tickets from any airline. I stopped next to the Demarcus’ Hummer as Joe Don went to grab his suitcase.
“You guys barely made it!” Allison joked.
“Well at least he’s not that late.” I replied, “But I did have to yell a little.”
“Yeah usually he would be like another 20 minutes and they’d miss their takeoff time.” Gary’s wife Tara laughed as their daughters ran over to say goodbye to Joe Don.
We talked for a bit more and before we knew it was time to say goodbye. Joe Don pulled me away from everyone but I couldn’t help but think about why he did.
*~*~*~*~*
“Why did you pulled me away from them?” I asked confused.
“So I could do this…” Joe Don whispered as he leaned in and gave me a kiss. It was one those rare ones. The kind that you don’t want to end. I pulled out and looked at him slyly.
“That’s the only goodbye I get?”
“I think it might be a little bit to late to add anything else…” he laughed.
“You know what…”
“Mmmm…no I don’t.”
“I love you.”
“I know, I love you too Alexa…” he replied giving me a hug.
“So I guess you better get going…”
“I guess so…” he grabbed my hand as we walked back over to the plane. Jay was just getting aboard and Gary was just finished up saying goodbye to his girls.
“Okay, so I’ll call you when we land.”
“Sounds good, I’ll make sure to have my phone on.” I smiled looking at him.
“I love you.” he whispered grabbing my other hand.
“I love you too…”
He gave me a quick kiss said goodbye and got on the plane.
I quickly turned around and started to walk away. I could feel the tears coming.
*~*~*~*~*
Allison grabbed my arm and made me stop. I turned and looked at her.
“Hey, you wanna get some lunch?” she asked sympathetically.
“Actually, I was gonna hang out with my friend Kati.”
“She can come too. Tara and the girls can’t make it. Just call her and tell us to meet us there.”
“Okay fine…”I said giving in and heading towards the truck.
*~*~*~*~*
“Yeah just meet us at Mulligan’s” I said talking to Kati on the phone, “Yeah on 2nd…say you’re with Allison Demarcus…mmhmm…alright see you soon…Bye.”
Me and Ally pulled into some parking space nearby the restaurant and walked inside. Thank god for the idea of making a reservation otherwise we would’ve never gotten to sit down. We ordered some drinks and starting talking.
*~*~*~*~*
“So…you handled that pretty well for your first time.” She said.
“What?”
“The last girlfriend was like sobbing the first time the guys went out west” she laughed, “ Needless to say…she didn’t even make it to the second time out.”
“Wow! See I’m not that clingy…”
“Oh really…it sure seemed like it.”
“Now what are you talking about I said pretending not to know.
”Oh come on! We ALL saw that kiss! It looked pretty clingy to us!”
“Well, you know…” I smiled slyly.
”Save it! I don’t want to know!” Ally said laughing.
“Hey girls!” I heard Kati say coming up behind me giving me a hug. “Hi. I’m Kati.”
”Ally. It’s nice to meet you.” Ally said shaking her hand.
“So what have you two been talking about?” Kati asked sitting down.
“Oh…just about Alexa’s and Joe Don’s steamy relationship…”Ally laughed.
“Ugh! I know…spare me the details!” Katie replied.
*~*~*~*~*
We kept up with our girl talk. Mostly about shoes, clothes, guys, and more shoes. Finally our food came and we ate it quickly being as we really wanted to get in some boutique shopping before I had to go to work.
After a while my phone started ringing. I pulled it out of my purse and answered it.
*~*~*~*~*
“Hello?” I answered.
“Hey sweetie! How are you?” Joe Don’s voice boomed.
“Good! Shopping with Ally and Kati!”
“Ooooo…sounds expensive. Well anyways, we just landed.”
“And how was your flight?”
“Sucky! Tons of turbulence…”
“Aww…that sucks.” I said, “Glad to know you’re not dead.”
“That’s not funny…that could’ve happened.” He complained.
“Sorry…was it really that bad?”
“No…but we landed during a thunderstorm. It was rather fun…”
“Yeah I know…done it many times.” I said, “It ain’t fun!”
“You’re cute…” Joe Don replied, “So do you miss me yet?”
“Not yet…it’s only been what…3 hours.”
“Not even just a little?”
“Okay maybe a little…but right now you are being annoying.”
“Well I miss you baby.” He said. In the background I heard a little coo come from Jay and I rolled my eyes.
“Do me a favor.” I said.
“What’s that?”
“Smack him for me!” I laughed and heard a whine come from Jay.
“Owww…what was that for?!” he asked.
“Alexa told me to…” Joe Don said to him.
“Thank you sweetheart.” I laughed.
“Your welcome!” Joe Don replied.
“Okay we I better go.” I said as I thumbed through a rack of clothes, “Only a little bit before I gotta go to work.”
“Alright, well call me when you get off.”
“I will. Love you hun.”
“Love you too ‘Lex. Bye.”
“Bye.”
*~*~*~*~*
I hung up and looked at the time. Only an hour left till work. I decided I should go home and get ready.
“Hey girl. I’m get going.” I said walking up to them. “Gotta be at work in an hour.”
”Okay, we’ll see you later.” Kati replied giving me a hug.
“Yeah, call if you need anything.” Ally said hinting to me missing Joe Don.
“I will. Bye girls!” I said as I walked out.
*~*~*~*~*
Ally’s POV
“Okay…so what do you know about her and JD?” I asked Kati once Alexa was out of sight.
“Probably a little more than I’ve bargained for.” she laughed.
“Ohhh…you mean they’ve…” I trailed off.
“I don’t think so…she would’ve told me.” She said reassuring me. “But I have heard quite a bit from both her and her phone.”
”What?” I asked in disbelief.
”Let’s just say they need to learn to hang up the phone.”
“Ooo…bet that was uncalled for…no pun intended.” I laughed.
“Yeah! You think!” Kati laughed.
“Definitely! Did you tell her about it?” I asked.
“Yeah…she turned pretty red.”
“Yeah, that would be pretty embarrassing!”
“So what about you…what has she told you?” Kati asked me.
“Not much…but I told Jay to weasel some things from Joe Don.” I answered.
“Nothing so far?”
”Nope, Joe Don is usually pretty good at keeping quiet about that stuff.”
“Hmmm…I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about them from Alexa. She can’t ever keep a secret!” Kati laughed.
*~*~*~*~*
We kept gossiping about random things gong on around town. We stopped at a few more stores and by then it was almost 6:30 in the evening. We decided to both head home and get some rest. It had been a rather interesting day for us two!”
*~*~*~*~*
Joe Don’s POV
“Yeah my plane leaves for San Francisco in like 3 hours.” Alexa said over the phone. A week had gone by since I last saw her and I missed her like crazy.
“I bet you’re excited to coach elite gymnastics for the next 5 days.” I laughed.
”Actually I’d rather coach than be a gymnast…its way easier.” She said.
“And you’ve been the gymnast too…two years on the national team.”
“Yep, until I got hurt…”
”So…any idea when you’ll get home Sunday?” I asked her.
“Ummmm…I think late afternoon…that’s if we don’t get delayed.”
”Alright…I was hoping you’d get home before me.”
”What time do you guys leave Salt Lake?”
“I think around 9am Sunday.”
“Early for yoouuu!” she cooed.
“Be quiet! I can manage!”
“No you can’t!”
“We’ll see!”
“Okay, well I gotta go meet up with everyone at the gym then we leave for the airport.”
”Okay, talk to you soon. I love you…and I miss you.”
”I miss you too hunny…” she said.
”And…” I egged her on.
”I love you too sweetheart.” She finished with a laugh. “Did you think I forgot?”
”No…you were just taking to long.”
”Whatever, I gotta go…bye>”
“Bye babe.” I said.
*~*~*~*~*
I hung up the phone and let out a sigh. I had no idea I would miss Alexa this much. What I missed the most about her was her amazing smile. She has the sweetest, most inviting smile. I also just miss holding her in my arms. I just couldn’t wait to see her again.
*~*~*~*~*
Gary’s POV
“Hey man!” You messed that up!” Jay said to Joe Don. Apparently he messed up the intro the ‘Fast Cars and Freedom’.
“Okay Mr. Music Perfectionist…” Joe Don said annoyed.
“Alright guys…no fighting.” I laughed.
“But he messed up and I was just informing him.” Jay said defending himself.
“I’m not even going to get into it.” Joe Don said walking back to his side of the stage, “Keep whipping your head around like that Jay, maybe you’ll throw your neck out…”
”Man that’s it!” Jay screamed.
”You guys stop! Just get through the rest of sound check and forget about it.” I said.
That finally got them to shut up. Tonight was our last show of our west coast run. And being that we’ve spent every waking moment with each other, there was bound to be some tension.
As we walked back out to the bus to hang out for a while before the show, I stopped Joe Don.
“Hey, make sure you and Jay are cool. Alright man.” I said.
“Okay, I will.” He replied.
*~*~*~*~*
My POV
“Alyssa, you need to relax.” I said trying to calm her down. She had just hurt herself pretty bad falling on one of her tumbling passes during floor exercise warm-ups. Just then the trainer came up with a bunch of ice.
“Any idea what she did?” he asked immediately.
“Ummmm, almost positive it’s a torn Achilles Tendon.” I replied knowing that it was going to be a long recovery. After all I had done the same thing and it ended my career as an elite gymnast.
“Okay, lets just get the ice wrapped around it; the paramedics are on their way.”
*~*~*~*~*
“Hello?” I answered my phone. I was still at the hospital with Alyssa.
”Hey sweetie. How was your day?” Joe Don asked.
“Pretty good until Jay’s niece tore her Achilles…”
“Alyssa? You’re kidding!”
”Nope. Warming up on floor. I knew the minute she landed what she had done.”
”That sucks…was she having a good competition?”
”Yeah…we’re probably going to petition her for the national team if she heals fast enough.”
”She’s gonna need surgery right.”
”Yeah. But we are waiting until we get back to Nashville.”
”Okay, well I’ll be sure to let Jay know.”
“Sooo…how was your day?” I asked.
“Okay…can’t wait to get home.” He laughed.
“Really? You miss your bed that much?” I replied sarcastically.
“Of course! And going home means I get to see you.”
”Awww…you’re so sweet.”
”I know that Alexa.”
“Okay, since it’s almost midnight, I’m going to let you get some sleep…you have to get up early.”
“Don’t remind me…” he groaned. “I’ll call you in the morning.”
”Sounds good. I love you Joe Don.” I said.
“Love you too, Alexa. Bye.”
”Bye sweetie.”
*~*~*~*~*
I hung up and decided I had to get to sleep too. I helped Alyssa back to the car and up to her hotel room. After I made sure she was set, I headed back to my own room. All I did when I got inside was change, set the alarm and went straight to bed.
